Elafonisi is approximately an 1,5-hour drive from Chania city, depending on traffic.
By car: In general, we recommend using a car in order to better explore the area.
By bus: There is only one daily bus route from Chania city, leaving the city at 9:00 and returning from Elafonisi at 17:00.
By boat from Paleochora: There is a daily boat at 10:00 from Paleochora to Elafonisi every day except Sunday. The boat returns from Elafonisi to Paleochora at 16:00. When there is strong wind in the area, however, the routes do not run for safety reasons. The boat can only carry passengers, and not vehicles.
The above routes run during the high season. If you are visiting the area during the low season (from November to March), please make sure to be updated through the internet or otherwise for any possible changes in bus and boat routes and timetables.
